Understanding The RODI difference
We regularly get asked what makes our system different or more expensive than other RO systems. It’s a valid question when making a decision to invest in a product that is going to have an impact on your health. Most of us would always look to maximize our return on investment and in choosing the right water purifier you will want to be sure that it removes all waterborne impurities in a water-efficient manner.
We should start by making the differentiation of water treatment systems because RO systems are never equal and have no internationally recognized body to regulate and police the claims being made. There are however recognized standards in the product water being produced, like the EPA, that provide proof that a product meets standards. Only our patented RODI system complies with these standards, that means we have the only system certified for use on microbiological impurities in water (that applies to tap water).
Domestic Reverse Osmosis systems are relatively simple products and there are many cheap imports claiming to achieve levels of purity without any form of validation. The truth is that cheap RO systems are put together with foreign materials that fail to meet food standards and have very simple mechanical valves that fail to use water efficiently whilst permitting bacteria and heavy metals to pass straight through the membrane. We’ve seen products such as Chinese drywall that failed to state the level of volatile chemicals and sulfuric gasses that were eventually found to be highly hazardous. Similarly, we’ve found that these cheap RO imports fail to use food grade polypropylene and polyethylene leading to leaching of toxins and membranes that are not RO but UF with levels of removal are overstated. Products from Asia are renowned for shortcuts, illegal use of CE / ISO markings and failure to state true contents of materials. Poor working conditions and regulatory compliance is another reason we will not import products from Asia.
More importantly, the choice of cheap RO can ultimately lead to higher levels of impurities in the product water than first existed in the tap water. We see this regularly in systems that claim to be “5 stage RO” yet produce higher levels of contaminants than the tap water they are supposed to be treating. It’s a simple equation; RO requires a drain for the brine, RO systems use a cheap plastic drain valve that clogs with scale from the moment it turns on. This valve starts it’s life by failing to use water efficiently, using up to 100 times more than our patented RODI system. After several months the valve plugs and the backlog of dissolved solids increase rapidly (4-500 parts per million in every liter passed through the membrane) until the rejection rate still permits more impurities through than in the original 500 parts per million in tap water.
Our patented RODI system is vastly superior using micro-switches and stainless steel solenoid valves controlled by an intelligent management patented processor to carefully manage the volume of water being used in flush cycles and production. The valves and management system last up to 20 years (we have 24 years real time experience so we can stand by our word and ensure that differential pressure across the RO membrane is kept at its optimum performance – this, in turn, extends membrane life beyond 10 years compared to 12 months for normal RO systems. With just one annual service of Pre-filter De-Ioniser and Post filter we can guarantee the quality of your water will be 99.99% pure (that means inorganic and organic impurities as well as bacteria, virus, and pathogens). We are the only company to guarantee quality and production for the life of the equipment (subject to annual service).
So, understanding that RO cannot produce pure water and that quality drops from the time it is installed whereas our patented RODI process maintains total purity year in year out explains one of the most important differences.
Here are some other great advantages of our patented RODI system over the cheaper RO.
- As with other ordinary RO, hardness must be 10 grains/gallon or less to avoid fouling membrane. Otherwise, a water softener is mandatory for pretreatment vs. our RODI at 25 grains / gallon.
- As with other ordinary RO, must not be installed on microbiologically unsafe water or water of unknown quality i.e. not well water suitable…will not remove bacteria. VS ours which removes bacteria.
- Mandatory, to cite removal of cryptosporidium, must have third party validation vs our Test Data.
When comparing our process to an RO supplier purporting to Ionize the water we observed the following:
- The Mini Ionizer has:
- No substantiated laboratory data. VS Our Test Data
- No certifications or registrations BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE FOR ALKALIZING IONIZING. VS our ISO, EPA, WQA Gold Seal, OU.
- Citing manufactured in manufactured by WQA member is misleading. Anybody can be a member.
- Citing manufactured by ISO accredited company should publish also the specific ISO accreditation certificate number and agency. VS our which published.
- Citing complies with FDA ICP-OES is misleading, as this is a protocol for testing (Pb, Hg, Bi, As, Sb, Sn, Cd, Ag, Cu, Mo).
- The alkalizing story is a myth
- The chart showing battery acid / lemon juice pH at 1 – 2 is misleading. Digestive juices in the stomach pH is 1-2.
Lastly, let me bring to your attention that tap water in the US now contains legal levels of carcinogens and toxins that have been shown to cause cancer and other health issues. With this knowledge, my guess is that would you chose a system that is qualified to remove this poison in its entirety. We give you our guarantee that our RODI process is the most effective system on the market producing the purest healthiest water that tastes great.
